For gas exchange to be efficient there must be a close match of ventilation & perfusion in the lungs. This App contains a 3D video which offers an overview of the process of ventilation perfusion matching, using beautiful, scientifically accurate 3D visualisation & digital story-telling. We take a look inside the human body to follow the path of air breathed in, right down to the alveolar capillaries, to see what occurs to the partial pressure of oxygen (PO2) & the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO2) when ventilation is low or high relative to perfusion.

This 3Dme App has primarily been produced for undergraduate medical, physiotherapy, health science, nursing, pharmacology, exercise science & veterinary science students to assist their understanding of this fundamental curriculum-based topic. It is one of the core concepts which the student needs to understand if they are to successfully understand subsequent respiratory physiology concepts. This App is also suitable for the university lecturer who could “airplay” the video to their students, followed by a discussion on the Q & A. They may also choose to use the Q & A to examine their student’s level of understanding. This 3Dme App will also appeal to health professional graduates working in the field of respiratory physiology who may like to refresh their memory on the fundamentals of respiratory physiology. Additionally, a portion of proceeds from the sale of each App will be returned to Griffith University to fund ongoing innovative teaching & learning initiatives.

The video on this App was awarded a 2010 New York Global Finalist certificate.

3Dme welcomes your feedback on this App via the App Store. This will assist to improve the content & functionality of the production of future 3Dme medical education Apps.
